Lane Adamson is a Texas writer with a lifelong fascination for the rhythm of language and a constant, childlike sense of wonder at the terrible beauty and power of words. His works have appeared in print in Aoife's Kiss, Champagne Shivers, and Forbidden Worlds (along with a select sampling of online venues), as well as in his editorial project, Robots Beyond—released in April 2009 by Permuted Press. Seasonal Affect

dreams wisp away on the scent of hardwood and creosote
drifting from chimneys tattooed with the tribal zigzags
of failing foundations

bitter shards of sleet strafe across frost-napalmed lawns
sniping at exposed weaknesses with random precision and stinging
like yesterday's lies

mushroom-pallid skies reflect crowded memories
future tense with faint hope of pasts unremembered
and empty reunions

family room filled with misplaced and damaged baggage
always arriving well in advance of the seasoned traveler
name-tags attached

gifts and guilt exchanged with equal enthusiasm
ripping the wrap from packaged emotions and scattering
the pieces underfoot

meals and recriminations spiced with spite and shared abundantly
passing a generous bounty between generations that tastes
like the ashes of dreams
